Currencies worth `12.16 L seized at Dabolim airport

The Goa Customs attached to Dabolim Airport seized assorted foreign currency worth Rs 12.16 lakh from an international passenger on Wednesday.  

Based on intelligence gathered, the customs officers intercepted an international passenger travelling to Dubai via Muscat by an Oman Air flight on Wednesday and recovered assorted foreign currencies equivalent to Rs 12.16 lakh.   

The assorted foreign currencies were concealed inside two packets of special roasted bread and in a black colour pouch kept in the hand baggage of the international passenger. The foreign currencies were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.  

The customs team was headed by Dr Raghavendra P, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, under the supervision of T R. Gajalakshmi, Additional Commissioner of Customs, and guidance of R Manohar, Commissioner of Customs. Further investigation is under progress.  

Since April 2018, the Air Customs of the Goa Commissionerate has seized foreign currencies equivalent to about Rs 67.5 lakh from international passengers at the Dabolim International Airport.
