A resident of Curtorim has threatened to knock the doors of the High Court if the concerned authorities fail to crack a whip against illegal sand mining at Muxivaddo-Curtorim.
In his petition addressed to the Chief Secretary, besides the South Goa District Collector, District Superintendent of Police and the Salcete mamlatdar, Menino Fernandes complained with photographic evidence that around 20 trucks of sand is being illegally mined every night and transported across the State.
“This illegal mining is going on with the help of the officers. When I had telephoned Maina-Curtorim police, they did not take any action against the person involved in the illegal sand mining,” he said, adding that officials of the Director of Mines too failed to initiate action against illegal sand mining at Muxivaddo.
While calling upon the Chief Secretary and the Director of Mines and police to raid the site at Muxivaddo and stop the illegal mining within 15 days, Menino warned that he would be left with no option than to knock the doors of the High Court for negligence of duty and corrupt practices.
