In an effort to improve waste disposal facilities and encourage responsible civic practices, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenço on Saturday announced that two designated, manned garbage collection points would be opened in the constituency on October 20.

Addressing the media, Lourenço said the collection points would be located near Sonsodo Junction and Ramnagri Junction. “Residents will be able to bring and dispose of their garbage at these designated locations daily, except Sundays, between 7.30 am and 10.30 am. A person will be present at each location to manage the collection,” he said.

The MLA said garbage would be collected only between 7.30 am and 10.30 am, adding that no waste would be accepted after these hours. “Leaving garbage at the collection points beyond the designated timings will attract a penalty as per law. Only segregated dry, wet and sanitary waste will be collected free of cost,” he said.

Lourenço said the initiative aimed to provide residents with designated places for garbage disposal and encourage greater public participation in keeping neighbourhoods clean. Residents were encouraged to use these facilities and help maintain cleaner surroundings across Curtorim.

The MLA also announced a special road safety drive to promote road safety and responsible road behaviour. “We will undertake a special road safety awareness drive in collaboration with the Maina Curtorim police station. The initiative will carry an important message for road users: ‘Your safety matters’,” he said.
