The father of the deceased scooter rider, who lost his life after a tree came crashing dwon on him at Nuvem on Tuesday during a tree cutting exercise by the PWD, NH, lodged his complaint against the authorities, including the PWD, Highways, and the Forest Department for negligence, resulting in the death of his son.
Nuvem villagers who marched to the Maina Curtorim police station on Wednesday, demanding justice for the 25-year old deceased, said they will not take the mortal remains of the boy till justice is done to the family.
In his complaint seeking justice for his son, Richard Dalvis Costa, the father Antonio Xavier Costa demanded that the culprits should be booked for the act of negligence as he was the only earning member of his family.
“I believe that the person who was cutting the tree adjacent to the NH66 did not take proper care and caution while cutting the tree and due to the negligent act of the worker and the supervisor, the tree fell on my son due to which he expired”, Antonio stated in his complaint.
The villagers, including Pausilip Dourado and Everson Vales told the media outside the Maina Curtorim police station that they all have to seek justice for the deceased. “The father of the deceased has lodged a complaint against the authorities, including PWD and Forest officials. We are demanding justice for the family”, Dourado added.
Another villager said the family will not take the body of the deceased unless justice is met.
Maina Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Shivram Vainginkar told the media that the police has started investigations into the incident after registering a case of unnatural death. Meanwhile, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa has said has taken up the matter with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said it is the most unfortunate incident which led to death of a young man at Nuvem due to gross negligence of PWD.
While expressing his condolences, Kamat demanded strict action against all those responsible, adding that PWD is now turned into Public Wrath Department.
He was reacting to the death of a young man who died after a tree fell in him while he was passing on his bike.
“There is complete collapse of administration in PWD. People are made to suffer everyday with bad roads, shortage of water supply, breakdown of pipelines, etc as the department has lost complete control on its administration”, he said.
Kamat demanded that PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar must immediately order a high level inquiry into this incident which has costed a life of an innocent person and take strict action against all those who are responsible.
He also demanded that Chief Minister Dr. PramodSawant must immediately give compensation to the family of the deceased.
