Data infrastructure project to be implemented soon: Govt

Dr Ankit Yadav, IAS, Director of the Department of Science and Technology and Waste Management, and Joint Secretary of the Government of Goa, has stated that the Goa State Remote Sensing Centre will soon be implementing the Goa State Data Infrastructure Project.

He was addressing after inaugurating the Hexagon India Technical Summit organized in association with Goa State Remote Sensing Centre, c/o Department of Science, Technology & Waste Management, Government of Goa, for government line department officials and academic institutions in the city today.

Dr Yadav highlighted that the Goa State Remote Sensing Centre serves as the nodal agency for data collection and sharing in line with the National Geospatial Policy 2022. He emphasized the role of remote sensing technology in various sectors, including agriculture, land records, mining, and disaster management. Given Goa’s extensive coastline and the challenges posed by climate change, he pointed out that several geospatial technologies can be applied to address these issues.

The summit offers a valuable opportunity for all departments to explore and integrate these technologies, he further mentioned.

Dr Brenda Fernandes, Director of Goa State Remote Sensing Centre, gave the welcome address.

Mr Manoj Sharma, Director of Marketing and Sales Excellence at Hexagon India, highlighted Hexagon’s leadership in digital reality solutions on a global scale. He stated that Hexagon’s innovative integration of sensors, software, and autonomous technologies enables customers to effectively harness the expanding volumes of data available to them. This data is strategically used to boost efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety across a wide range of sectors, such as industrial processes, manufacturing, infrastructure development, public services, and mobility solutions, he informed.

Dr Alvarinho J Luis, Scientist In Charge, Polar Remote Sensing Sector, briefed about research activities of the Polar Remote Sensing section.

Mr Narinder Thapar, Senior Vice President, Mappls Geosystems, MapmyIndia, also had an interactive session with the participants.

Also present on the occasion were Dr Sharmila Monterio, Director, Directorate of Fisheries, and Member Secretary, Goa State Pollution Control Board, officials of Hexagon, and various government departments.
