Nearly a month after the body of the young Nachinola girl was found on Calangute beach in mysterious circumstances, the father of the deceased Siddhi Naik has on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Calangute Police claiming that his daughter was killed and police should investigate the case as murder.

The deceased’s father, Sandeep Naik in his complaint stated that he suspects that his daughter was drowned in shallow water and then brought and kept at the spot and further suspected that some unknown person/persons was/were involved in the murder of his daughter.

He said that on the day when his daughter’s body was found (August 12), he was very distraught with what had happened and so had not suspected foul play but his perception changed after seeing the viral photos of his daughter and after going through the post mortem report which was submitted to him on Wednesday (Sept 1).

The complainant said the viral photo of the dead body was seen in a “face down” (lying on tummy) position, whereas, in the post-mortem report it was mentioned that the dead body remained in a “face-up” or “supine” (lying on back) position for quite some time, and later on, it was changed to “face down” or “prone” position as seen in viral photos.

He said this fact points out that the position of the dead body has been changed by an unknown person/s for at least more than one time.

Secondly, he said, the post-mortem report mentioned that the stomach was empty which means there was no water in the stomach and it also mentioned there were sand particles present beyond the vocal cord clearly indicating that Siddhi was not drowned in deep seawater.

Finally, Naik said, the post-mortem report mentioned about three injuries on the body in the form of bruises.

“I admit that, I did not suspect any foul play in the death of my daughter, till the time I saw viral photos and then read the postmortem report. Now, I have realized foul play in my daughter’s death. Therefore, I lodge a complaint at your police station that an unknown person/s has/have murdered my daughter by forcibly downing her in shallow beach seawater, holding her in such a position to cover mouth and nostril till she dies of drowning in water,” Naik said in his complaint.

According to women and child rights activist, Auda Viegas the police should register the case as murder as the father has given sufficient grounds in the matter.

“I am reiterating my stand that no one who wants to commit suicide will remove her clothes and jump in and moreover the girl did not know swimming. When you find a body you call the forensic team, take the body to the nearest health centre to check if she is alive or dead and then take her to the GMC and in between you inform the parents to identify if it was their daughter. Everything was done in such a hurry,” said Viegas, who accompanied Sandeep Naik to the Calangute police station to file the complaint.

“At least now the police should investigate the case properly and with all the seriousness it deserves.

We women want to know what actually happened to her,” she added.

Calangute PI, Nolasco Raposo said that he has received the complaint and the police were examining it.

“We will first ascertain whatever has been stated in the complaint and whatever has to be done will be done,” Raposo said.
