Vice President of India, C P Radhakrishnan, will chair the 40th Goa Statehood Day celebrations on Saturday, as the State-level function will bring together top constitutional and executive leadership.

The event, scheduled at Kala Academy, will also be attended by Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Marking four decades of Statehood, the program will include the inauguration of the Padma Vibhushan Mario Miranda Exhibition, release of a commemorative stamp and special cover for the cartoonist’s centenary, launch of the coffee table book “Goa: Engineering the Next Era”, and a curated screening tracing Goa’s transition from Union Territory to State.

Key administrative and welfare announcements will also be part of the program, including distribution of appointment letters to newly selected Police Sub-Inspectors, enhanced support under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), and felicitation under the Gopal Ratna Award Scheme for dairy sector contributions.

The State will also highlight initiatives under Swayampurna Villages and Swayampurna Mitras aimed at promoting self-reliant local governance models.

In view of the Vice President’s visit, the Captain of Ports on Friday issued navigation restrictions within a 500-metre radius around Lok Bhavan, Dona Paula, Kala Academy, CSIR and the National Institute of Oceanography, prohibiting movement of fishing vessels and barges for security reasons. Violations will invite strict action.

Meanwhile, the Goa Traffic Police has also imposed restrictions on vehicular movement and parking during this period.
