Two years on, rubble of demolished building still lies in heart of Margao.

Friday’s incident of the canopy/slab collapse again brought to the fore the issue of the building that had collapsed a stone’s throw away from the Old Bank of Baroda building.
While the building was demolished after a portion had collapsed two years ago, the debris lying at the site has taken the shape of a pile of rubble.
While inspecting the Old Bank of Baroda building, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat’s attention was drawn to the debris still lying at the demolished building.
An agitated Kamat point-blank instructed South Goa Additional Collector, Srinet Kothawale, to clear the debris and recover the cost from the property owner.
“This cannot be accepted. The entire area has turned into an eyesore. If the owner has failed to remove the debris, the authorities should clear the same and recover the cost of the operation from the owner,” Kamat asserted.
