The decades-long demand for a bridge at Savarde in Sattari taluka has finally received a major boost, with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announcing that the foundation stone will be laid by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant later this month.
Rane said the chief minister has assured full support for the project, clearing the way for its construction.
Residents of Savarde have been facing hardships for nearly 20 years due to the narrow bridge over the Mhadei River. Limited traffic capacity, safety concerns, and restricted development led to repeated demands for a wider bridge, with several resolutions passed in gram sabha meetings.
Due to its narrow width, the current bridge can accommodate only two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Transport of goods and larger vehicles requires long detours, increasing both travel time and costs. Students and teachers also face daily difficulties while commuting.
According to available information, the tendering process has been completed, and the new bridge project is estimated to cost around Rs 60 crore.
The new bridge will be constructed alongside the existing one, with protective walls and improved traffic arrangements on both sides. It will connect Savarde and Sonale, allowing four-wheelers and heavy vehicles to pass.
Once completed, the new bridge is expected to significantly accelerate development in the region. The scenic surroundings of the Mhadei river, riverside plantations, and tranquil environment could also open new opportunities for nature-based tourism.
After years of delay, the Savarde bridge issue is finally moving toward resolution, bringing relief and optimism among local residents.
