Decision on schools likely on Sept 27; Dr Salkar moots hybrid mode

PANAJI

Even as Maharashtra and Karnataka have set the stage to reopen schools from October, all eyes will now be on the State Task Force that will be meeting on September 27 to decide on the fate of schools in Goa.

The task force which had earlier met had suggested that the Goa government open doors for tourists from September 20 with 50% capacity and with the compulsion of both doses of vaccine and a Covid negative report.

However, the decision to reopen the schools in physical mode was not taken then.

“The expert committee will be meeting on September 27 at 3 pm to decide on the reopening of schools,” Dr Shekhar Salkar, member of the State Task Force on Covid said.

Dr Salkar further said the committee was scheduled to meet on September 24 but had not met as it wanted to know the positivity rate this week.

“If the positivity rate is below 5% and active cases are below 2500, then the expert committee will decide if schools can be started or not”, he said.

“Hybrid mode is a good way to start so that parents who want to send their children to school can do it while those who are still not comfortable in sending children physically to school, can opt for online teaching. It's a win-win situation for all", he said.
