VALPOI
The decomposed body of an unidentified person was found in the riverbed at Bhironda-Sattari.
Both arms and the lower part of the body are missing. The incident has spread fear among the citizens.
According to Valpoi police, on Sunday morning, citizens discovered a decomposed body floating in the river at Bhironda in Sattari.
As sarpanch Udaysingh Rane received information about the development, Valpoi Police Station was called in. Later, the Valpoi police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection.
As the body was found floating in the water, the Valpoi fire brigade was roped in. Firefighters pulled the body out of the river, which was found in a decomposed state.
The fire brigade personnel said both the hands and lower part of the body were missing.
The police conducted a panchanama and the body was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for a postmortem.
According to the Valpoi police, the body is likely to be around 20 days old and since it is completely decomposed, identification is tough.
Police to carry further inquiries into the case.
Meanwhile, sarpanch Udaysingh Rane said that at the place where the dead body was found several, several cases of drowning have been reported in the past. At times, citizens consume alcohol at this place and drown. Hence, locals have been continuously demanding that citizens should be banned from bathing there. The sarpanch assured to look into the demand.
