The upcoming greenfield international airport at Mopa, jointly being developed by the State government and GMR, will be delayed due to a Supreme Court order and is expected to be commissioned by 2021.

The Supreme Court order has directed status quo at the site which is causing the delay, Sawant said in response to a query posed by Congress legislator Pratapsing Rane who wanted to know the exact on-site position of the project.

Sawant, who holds the State civil aviation department portfolio said, 14.28 per-cent of progress in physical work has been achieved so far.

The first phase of the airport was slated to be completed by 2020 but the Supreme Court has stopped work on-site after a petition alleged illegal felling of thousands of trees.

Mhadei: Goa may move SC against

Water Dispute Tribunal’s award

PANAJI:  The State will soon be moving a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme  Court against the findings of the inter-state Water Dispute Tribunal  which last year permitted diversion of 13.42 TMC of water by Karnataka.

The over 30-year dispute between Goa, Karnataka and  Maharashtra over the waters of Mhadei river was adjudicated by the  Central Tribunal and the award passed last year.

Goa had initially said it would not challenge the  Tribunal’s award but CM Pramod Sawant in a written reply to  an unstarred question posed by former chief minister Digamber Kamat  said, that the government will move the Supreme Court soon.
