Delayed response to Curchorem train death

Body lies at site for hours

SANGUEM

An unidentified person was killed after being run over by a goods train at Curchorem railway station on Thursday morning, with delays in the arrival of officials and the removal of the body raising concerns over the handling of the incident.

According to information available, the body remained at the spot for several hours, allegedly due to delays in the arrival of medico-legal officials and police personnel attached to the railway authorities.

The handling of the incident also raised questions over the deployment of the 108 ambulance service, which was reportedly called to the railway station twice.

During its first visit, the ambulance was allegedly sent back on the grounds that the person was already dead. It was subsequently called again and reportedly remained at the station for a couple of hours while the necessary formalities were awaited.

The delay in the arrival of officials and the prolonged presence of the body at the site prompted concerns over the response to the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the death and the sequence of events are yet to be officially clarified. The identity of the deceased was not immediately known, while further details regarding the incident and the investigation by the railway authorities and police are awaited.
