The victory celebrations were expected even before the EVMs were opened in Delhi for counting on Tuesday. Anticipating a landslide victory, as projected by the exit polls, it was just a matter of time for the Goa Aam Admi Party (APP) volunteers to celebrate the great victory in the national capital in style.

AAP Goa convenor Elvis Gomes and his dedicated band of volunteers went around in a rally across Salcete’s coastal belt, virtually kick-starting AAP’s campaign for Goa ahead of the 2022 Assembly election.

As the victory procession wend its way through the thoroughfares of Benaulim constituency from Fatorda, before returning back via Navelim and Margao, Elvis made no secret of the fact that AAP has launched its campaign for Goa with renewed vigour from today.

After welcoming a couple of new members in the party-fold from Margao and Fatorda, with some of them even making token donations to the party, Elvis exuded confidence that the day is not too far when the people of Goa will look at AAP as an alternative for the ruling and opposition parties.

Given that AAP has single-handedly stopped the BJP juggernaut led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah from returning to power in the national capital, Elvis and the AAP local volunteers now hope that the landslide victory will help erase the label that the AAP is the B team of the Congress

party. “AAP has proved in Delhi that it can stop the BJP from returning to power in Delhi. The Congress, especially in Goa has for long painted AAP as the B team of the Congress. The Congress allegations will no longer hold good in Goa,” he said.

Appeared relieved after news trickled in that the AAP will retain power in Delhi, Elvis said the victory of AAP in the national capital is a victory for honest politics followed by Arvind Kejriwal and AAP.

“This election was fought by AAP on performance. Arvind Kejriwal told the voters to vote for AAP on performance. He told the electorate to either vote for performance or don’t vote and the people responded back with a landslide mandate for AAP,” he said.

The AAP state convenor said the election results has dished out a message that negative campaigning and politics centred on hate will not be accepted by the people any longer.

“The people of Delhi have rejected the politics of hate. They have voted for performance and clean politics. The Delhi election result also offers hope for the common man of Goa that they too can look forward for clean politics in the state,” he said, adding that number of congratulatory messages pouring from all quarters only goes to show that people will accept AAP in Goa as well.

No threat to Congress in Goa: Digambar

MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has said that Aam Admi Party’s landslide victory in Delhi will not pose any threat to the Congress in Goa, saying the people of Goa had tested AAP in the recent past.
“Goa is a totally different scenario. If you see the voting patterns, it is clear that the Congress base in Delhi has been shifted to AAP in the Assembly election,” Kamat said, when asked whether the Congress now considers AAP as a threat to the party in Goa in the future.
He parried a question whether the Congress leaders will continue to paint AAP as the B team of the BJP, with AAP singlehandedly stopping the BJP from returning to power in the national capital.
Commenting on the AAP success in Delhi, the Opposition Leader pointed out that Assembly results have been on expected lines.
“Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was the face of the AAP campaign in Delhi. Kejriwal went to the electorate on his performance over the last five years, especially with respect to health and education,” Kamat said, adding that the people have rewarded Kejriwal and rallied behind him solely on his performance.
To another question, the Opposition leader said that the AAP has won with a landslide majority despite anti-incumbency after ruling the state for five years, shows that the people of Delhi have given a clear mandate for Arvind Kejriwal.
