The State Election Commission has extended the date to March 4 for scrutiny of the delimitation draft of panchayat wards and to make suggestions and objections.
Earlier, the last date for submission of suggestions and objections was March 2.
Issuing an addendum on Saturday extending the date for general public, SEC granted two more days i.e till March 4 to submit suggestions, modifications, corrections etc pertaining to the delimitation of 186 village panchayat wards.
The draft delimitation proposals are available for scrutiny on all days including weekends -- Saturday and Sunday -- at the Electoral Registration Office and also at respective village panchayats during office hours.
It may be recalled that panchayat stakeholders and the civil society had cried foul over the time frame set by SEC for scrutiny of the draft delimitation of Panchayat wards and to make suggestions and objections.
Though the SEC had given seven days, Panchayat stakeholders maintained that the draft delimitation was sent to some of the panchayats in Salcete only on Friday.
Given that Saturday and Sunday being holidays and the state is on a carnival celebration mode, stakeholders had called for extension of time to facilitate the people to go through the draft and make suggestions, if any.
Meanwhile people have already started approaching to EROs seeking details and have already started filing their objections and suggestions.
The panchayat elections are scheduled to take place in June.
