Stating that several illegal constructions have come up in Porvorim constituency in recent years, Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said he has directed the panchayats to demolish the constructions after completing necessary formalities.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the beautification and illumination of Penha-de-Franca church at Britona.
Speaking further, Khaunte said the places of worships need to be taken care to preserve the identity of Goa

Speaking further, Khaunte said the places of worships need to be taken care to preserve the identity of Goa
and ‘Goenkarponn'.
"The ethos and cultural identity need to be conserved. The villagers should get basic infrastructure, their needs in regard to water, electricity, collection of garbage and sewerage should be fulfilled. If these things are taken care of, then the quality of life of villagers will improve and the people of all communities will live in peace and harmony."
"The beautification and illumination of Penha-de-Franca church is being done by the tourism department by spending Rs 1.33 crore," said Khaunte.
Penha-de-Franca church parish priest Fr Matheu Fernandes said this church is one of the oldest in Goa and tourists make it a point to visit it. "If this church is beautified, then it would attract more tourists," said Fr Fernandes and thanked Khaunte and the tourism department for taking up the work of beautification and illumination of the church.
Penha-de-Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar and ZP member Gupesh Naik also spoke on the occasion.
Officer of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Deepak Nevrekar compered the programme and also proposed the vote of thanks.
