Margao Urban Health Centre has said that dengue cases are well under control in the commercial capital as around 10 cases have been detected on an average in its jurisdiction in the last two months.
Officials, however, said that the dengue cases cannot be described as an outbreak for the simple reason that they have not been reported from any single locality.
While the Margao Urban Health Centre is equipped with a full-fledged team to carry out anti-larvae operations, sources said the prevailing weather conditions have contributed to the cases this season. “We have witnessed weather conditions wherein there is rain for some time and a long dry spell with bright sunlight. Instead of the water flowing down by heavy rains, we have come across water accumulation, contributing to breeding sites at some places. Our teams are on the job to tackle the situation”, sources said.
While sources said there is no cause for concern, Health officials have urged residents and institutions to ensure that water does not accumulate in containers, discarded tyres, flower pots and other receptacles, while advising the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, body pain or persistent fatigue.
The health department has assured that surveillance will continue in the jurisdiction of the health centre, comprising of the Margao municipal areas of Margao and Fatorda.
