MARGAO
The Goa police mobilised huge police force at Navelim on Saturday evening, apparently to foil the meeting on the Manipur violence convened at the Navelim Church grounds after the Deputy Collector rejected the permission for sound sought by the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Navelim, Gabriel Coutinho.
The meeting, however, took place inside the Rosary school hall, with Fr Gabriel telling the people that when one door is shut, God opens another door. “The authorities did not give the sound permission to hold the meeting. But, Navelkars have decided to hold the meeting inside the hall,” he said.
Deputy Collector, Margao, Snehal Prabhu rejected the permission for sound after the Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer called for rejection of the permission on the ground there’s a possibility of law and order situation.
Police force from entire South Goa was mobilised in strength, apparently to stop the meeting if held outside for want of permission. A couple of Goa police officers were seen in civilian clothes at Navelim, apparently to take stock of the situation.
