SANGUEM

Amid continuous rains in Sanguem since the last few days, locals have been baffled to find tarring taking place on the Bhati-Uguem road.

A panch from Bhati has now claimed that the tar which was laid a few days ago has already been washed away by the rains.

The Bhati-Uguem road had been dug about six months back to lay a water pipeline and since then, the damaged portion of the road had not been tarred, despite frequent requests from motorists.

Locals were surprised to find a contractor undertaking work to tar the road even during rains and they have been left wondering about the quality of work on the wet road. Many have feared that the tar which has been recently laid would be washed away during the rains.

When contacted, Bhati Panch Manoj Paryekar said he had reported the matter to the assistant engineer of the PWD (water) section, which had allotted the road repair work to the contractor.

“The official told me that the work would be stopped from Friday. But despite his assurance, the work continued even on Friday,” said Paryekar.

“We have doubts over the quality of this work and it appears that the contractor only wants to complete the work before the monsoon. In fact, the tar which was laid a few days ago has has already been washed away by the rains,” he added.
