Uttam Raut Dessai was posted as police inspector at Pernem police station, before he was recently promoted as DySP and posted at the Quepem police division.
Since the Pernem police station is without a head, Dessai continues to be its police officer despite being promoted as DySP.
With this unusual posting, Dessai now heads four police stations in three talukas of Quepem, Sanguem and Canacona as the sub-division police officer, while also handling 20 panchayats in the entire Pernem taluka as the police inspector.
The decision has been criticised by the Pernem Block Congress President Umesh Talavnekar.
"Interference of politicians in the home department is on the increase as they want officers of their choice at police stations in their constituencies," said Talvanekar.
Talavnekar also questioned the huge jurisdiction entrusted to a single police officer.
"Pernem police station alone has a vast jurisdiction of 20 panchayats in the entire Pernem taluka. The police station does not even have proper vehicles," he added.
