Two Zonal Agriculture Office (ZAO) personnel of Valpoi sustained minor injuries when the concrete portion of the ZAO building’s roof collapsed Thursday morning. This incident and the dilapidated condition of the building has created a fear among the other personnel working in the office as well as the public.
It was in the morning on Thursday, when Santoba Desai and Sugandhi Gawas were working in their place and suddenly the concrete portion of the ZAO’s roof fell injuring the two. Sugandhi Gawas was treated in CHC Valpoi for primary treatment and then sent home for rest as per the information received from official sources.
The building has been said to deteriorating to its current state from the last one year. The concerned department failed to undertake the steps required to repair the building on time due to which it has led to this result. The plans for a new ZAO building have been approved by the administration and are awaiting sanctioning of funds.
The current condition of the building poses a high risk on the human lives of the personnel and the public. However since the monsoons have arrived the agriculture department is busy with seasonal plantations and making purchases for the same.
When contacted Santoba Desai, one of the injured in the incident, he said that they were injured while on official duty. Meanwhile ZAO of Valpoi Prakash Raut said that the proposal for a new building is already sent and they are awaiting for the approval.
