Congress-turned-Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Friday said that development funds will be spent more on the beautification of the city in a planned manner rather than on gutters and roads.
Launching a beautification project in Ward No. 12 of the Margao Municipal Council at an estimated cost of Rs 17 lakh, the Margao MLA said the city’s parking woes will end once the multi-level parking project behind the Margao Municipal Council takes shape. He further said that another site for a parking project is being worked on and the proposal will be placed in the public domain after being finalised.
Saying that development funds will now be spent on adding beauty to the city, Kamat said that a city-based architect Avinash Borkar has been roped in by the authorities to design and plan so that the project adds aesthetic value to the city. “We have already taken one such beautification project at Aquem. This is the second project in Ward No. 12,” he said, adding that the beautification concept will be implemented in other wards as well.
On the six-lane Rawanfond bridge, Kamat said the GSIDC will soon tender the six-lane bridge at an estimated cost of Rs 64 crore. “Once this bridge becomes a reality, there should not be any traffic problem in the city’s eastern side around the Rawanfond-Aquem area,” he said.
Saying that he had brought in projects offering long-term solutions to the city during his stint in office, Kamat said the district Collectorate building, district hospital building and the Ravindra Bhavan, to name a few were planned with long-term objectives.
