Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Monday inaugurated the construction work of pavered footpath from church to Goa Shipyard Limited at Vasco.
The work was inaugurated in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Deepak Naik, ward councillor Nandadeep Raut and others.
Speaking to the media, Almeida said pedestrians were facing a problem as there were no footpaths and as such it was need of the hour. "This footpath from the church to GSL was for the benefit for the people at large and we had requested GSL to take it up under its CSR and they have deposited Rs 1.8 crores for the project," said Almeida.
He further said the project will be undertaken in four phases, of which one phase work of reconstruction of concrete gutter from INS Gomantak road to fire station at Mundvel was completed.
The work orders for the second and third phases, that is demolition and reconstruction of compound wall and widening of footpath at
St Andrew's circle for providing free passage towards Mangor Hill and construction of pavered footpath from Vasco fire station to GSL have been given and the final phase of construction of pavered footpath from Vasco KTC bus stand to GSL and New Vaddem junction including widening and concrete gutter with RCC slabs has been tendered.
"I am happy that GSL has given money for this project under its CSR and the project will be completed in 180 days," he added.
