The Sai Paduka (slippers of Sai Baba) from Shirdi arrived in the State on Thursday accompanied by hundreds of devotees from Maharashtra and programme to welcome the Sai Paduka took place at the Martyr's memorial in Patradevi-Pernem.
Those present at Patradevi to welcome the Sai Paduka included Maharashtra Minister of State for Finance Deepak Kesarkar, Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik, Sports Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar, ZP member Ramesh Sawal and former Fatorda MLAs Damu Naik and Sadanand Shet Tanawade.
The Sai Paduka arrived from Sawantadi via Banda at about 1 pm along with the hundreds of devotees from Maharashtra. The procession of the Sai Paduka will pass through several parts of Goa over the next two days.
Speaking to reporters, Deepak Kesarkar said the Shirdi temple has planned a procession of Sai Paduka at 40 different places, including 12 in Goa, to commemorate the centenery celebration of Sai Baba temple at Shirdi.
"I am very happy as Goa is the first state after Maharashtra to welcome Sai Paduka. My mother is from Goa and I am proud of it," said Kesrkar.
Ayush Minister Shripad Naik said such an event was taking place for the first time in Goa and appealed to people to seek blessings at the Sai Paduka. The Sai Paduka will be stationed at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Bambolim and will be kept open for all devotees.
