Director General of Goa Police Dr Muktesh Chander on Tuesday cautioned the personnel of Goa Police against involvement in wrongdoing and criminal activities on the backdrop of the arrest of two constables attached with Calangute police station and suspension of one constable of Mapusa police station in two recent cases of robbery of new currency.
Speaking to the police force on the occasion of Police Raising Day, DGP Chander stated, "It is a worrisome trend which has come to light over the last few days. Strict action will be initiated against any policeman found guilty in malpractices and irregularities. I urge all of you to steer clear of such acts."
He also drew the attention of the policemen to the death of 11 police personnel in road accidents over the last one year. "When we ask the public to use helmet and seatbelts, we should ensure that we also follow all traffic rules. Some of these men could have been saved if they had followed rules," DGP Chander rued.
While applauding the Goa Police for performing in the face of challenges, such as delivery of security, traffic, law and order duties at the recent BRICS and BIMSTEK summit despite scarcity of resources and want of time. "But we need to enhance professionalism when it comes to basic policing, control over criminals, monitoring and presence on social media," DGP Chander said.
He also added that while the police staff has been trained to go cashless in their personal capacities, cashless mode of transaction will also be adopted soon in the formal arena beginning with the facility to pay without cash for traffic challans. Offering an insight into the month task, it was informed that around 3.4 lakh traffic challans have been issued over the last year.
Thirteen cops who were awarded the DGP's insignia on the occasion of the Police Raising Day include Superintendent of Police Rohidas Patre, PI (Traffic Cell, Vasco) Sudesh Narvekar, PI (Crime Branch) Dattaguru Sawant, PI (SP North Office) Milind Bhuimber, PI Quepem Pravin Gawas, PI Curchorem Ravindra Desai, PI Coastal Security Elvis Barbosa, Assistant sub-inspector Ponda Pratap Phal, HC (Security) Nilkanth Prabhu, HC (PHQ) Nagesh Mardolkar, HC (SP office) Ranjit Kumar Desai, constable (Security) Anand Ghatwal and constable (PHQ) Prakash Gaonkar.
The annual rolling trophies, cash prize and certificates for the best police stations for the year June 2015-16 were also awarded. Mapusa police station was judged as the best station with Panaji and Collem being announced as the second and third.
