DGP’s second visit to Margao to ensure water-tight case

MARGAO

The top brass of the Goa police on Wednesday reviewed the investigations in the Betalbatim gang rape case, with DGP Muktesh Chander directing the investigating officers to expedite the investigations and chargesheet the accused persons at the earliest.

The DGP drove down to Margao on Wednesday evening and was huddled with district police chief, Dinraj Govenkar, Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DYSP Raju Raut Desai, Colva police station in-charge, PI Filomena Costa and PI Navlesh Desai at the South Goa district police headquarters.

This is the second visit by the DGP to the district police headquarters since the incident at Betalbatim was reported last month.

Police sources said the DGP reviewed the progress of investigations in the case and gave enough tips to the subordinates and the IO to cap the investigations and file the chargesheet in the court.

Sources in the know said that the police also interrogated one of the three accused, Ram, in the presence of the DGP as the police is believed to be working as per a strategy in the sensational case.

The DGP was explained by the IO about the progress of investigations so far and the efforts put in by the police to bring all evidence together and prepare a full-proof case against the accused.

It is learnt that the DGP was told that the statements of the victims, the 20-year-old rape victim and her 22-year-old boyfriend, have been recorded before the Magistrate under section 164 of the Cr Pc.
