A group of locals from the Dhangar community have threatened an agitation if mud dumped along an access to a house at Pissurlem-Sattari is not cleared immediately.
The issue erupted over clashes between two families, prompting both families to file police complaints against each other.
According to reports, the Mote family constructed a house under the 20-point programme at Gaonkarwada-Pissurlem a few years ago.
Some women from the Parab family then filed a police complaint accusing one member of the Mote family of illegally selling liquor in her house and also accused the family of disturbing peace in the area.
Clashes broke out between the Mote and Parab families on Saturday. The Parab family then dumped soil, blocking access to the Mote family.
The Mote family then filed a police complaint claiming that access to their house had been blocked with the dumping of mud and alleged that some members from the Parab family had molested local panch, Sangeeta Mote.
Valpoi police then booked an offence against five members of the Parab family.
Speaking to reporters, Babu Mote said access to their house had been blocked by the Parab family by dumping the mud. “We have asked authorities to clear the debris at the earliest,” said Babu Mote.
On the other hand, Vasudev Parab insisted that soil had been dumped on the property belonging to the Parab family.
“The Mote family has a different access but only wants to use this access. The dispute has arisen only due to the illegal sale of liquor in the house of Babu Mote.”
“People who get intoxicated have been creating nuisance in the area and have been using foul language in front of our womenfolk. Hence, we decided to dump the mud in our own property.”
“There may be a complaint against us at the Valpoi police station, but we are ready to face the consequences. When this land belongs to the Parab family, how can the Mote family claim ownership right to this land,” asked Vasudev Parab.
Meanwhile, the Goa Dhangar Samaj Seva Sangh Sattari block president B D Mote voiced concern in the matter.
“Some members of the Parab family have been creating problems and threatening Dhangar family members on various issues. We will not tolerate this and if the debris is not cleared, all community members will stage an agitation,” warned B D Mote.
