The Dhargal panchayat area is facing garbage menace on a large scale and the issue is becoming serious, locals complain. The increasing population in the area is the main reason for growing heaps of garbage on roadsides and in empty spaces.
The panchayat has installed CCTV cameras to keep a check on the garbage menace and to catch the culprits, but the issue remains unresolved. The government has allotted certain funds to the panchayats to dispose of the garbage in their jurisdiction, but the rising heaps of garbage has created doubts in the minds of the locals about the use of this funds.
Rohidas Harmalkar claimed that non-Goans coming from other States are residing in the Dhargal panchayat area in large numbers. Some of them live on rental basis and dump their garbage anywhere. Some people throw the garbage in plastic bags on the roadside, and the panchayat should take strict action against such people, appealed Harmalkar. He also pointed out that the footpaths constructed under Swadesh Darshan scheme are also full of garbage.
