The Bombay High Court at Goa has asked all Municipal Councils to conduct a survey to ascertain the presence of illegal hoardings within their jurisdiction while expressing shock at the report submitted by the Mapusa Municipal Council, which found only two illegal hoardings within its jurisdiction.
“It is difficult to digest that there are only two illegal hoardings in the entire Mapusa municipal area. The contents of the affidavit are shocking. The affidavit appears to be only an eyewash. Accordingly, the Mapusa Municipal Council is directed to conduct a survey and submit a report within two weeks from today,” the High Court bench of Justices Prakash D Naik and Bharat Deshpande, said.
Earlier in the hearing, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) submits that action will be initiated in respect of 45 show cause notices, which are already issued by the CCP and a status report of the same will be filed by the end of this month, a statement that the court accepted.
The Sanguem, Quepem and Curchorem municipal councils too have filed affidavits reporting that one hoarding is noticed at Curchorem and a notice has been issued, and there are no illegal hoardings within the jurisdiction of other Councils.
Affidavits filed on behalf of Valpoi, Sanquelim and Cuncolim municipal councils stated that there are no illegal hoardings in their jurisdiction. The Bicholim Municipal Council has noticed one illegal hoarding.
“All the other municipal councils are directed to conduct a survey and submit a report within two weeks,” the High Court said.
