Displaced GMC kiosk owners/vendors, who are awaiting rehabilitation, have petitioned the North Goa Collector at attempts by non-affected persons in availing benefits under the rehabilitation scheme.
The move comes against the backdrop of submission of completion certificate by the contractor and the kiosk owners/vendors expecting handover of the kiosks at any moment.
The petition, signed by over 30 affected kiosk owners and vendors, pointed out that some persons are trying to take advantage of the rehabilitation plan by conniving with some authorities.
“It has come to our notice that there are many unauthorised people trying to get into rehabilitation scheme in connivance with authorities,” the petition states, while giving example of one such person trying to take undue advantage of the rehabilitation plan.
Meanwhile, the kiosk owners/vendors have urged for clubbing them as per their business and accordingly to accommodate them in one area so that everybody gets equal business.
They have also urged the Collector to issue directions not to allow operation of food trucks or any other unauthorised business activity outside the GMC once the displaced kiosk owners /vendors are rehabilitated.
It may be recalled that around 34 kiosks operating outside the GMC were razed in an early morning swoop on July 1 last year with several fruit vendors also directed to stop conducting business.
The displaced kiosk owners/vendors had then begun an agitation demanding their rehabilitation and had indefinitely suspended the same after completing 51 days in the wake of the PWD issuing ex-post facto order to the contractor for construction of kiosks.
