A dispute broke out between two groups over access to the Shree Bhumika Devasthan at Ashwem-Mandrem.

Pernem Deputy Collector Shivaprasad Naik has intervened in the matter and has invited both groups to a meeting on Friday, but insisted that there would not be any interruption in the scheduled Navaratri programme for nine days.

According to reports, some residents from one group reportedly locked the ‘Garbhkudi’ of Shree Bhumika Devastan on the eve of the Navratri festival, sparking off a quarrel between two groups. One group consists of five ‘Mankaris’ and the other group consists of ‘Mahajans’.

A Mandrem police team rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama.

Pernem Deputy Collector Shivaprasad Naik then intervened in the matter and advised both groups not to interfere in the affairs of the Devastan till the dispute is resolved. He has invited both groups for a meeting on Friday.

The deputy collector also informed that the Navratri festival will be celebrated without any disruption.
