Babus in Goa in the ‘B’ and ‘C’ category are in for a bonanza this Diwali as a proposal to pay them a non-productivity linked bonus is under the State government’s consideration and is likely to be approved by it in this week itself.

Official sources said, the file with the proposal to pay non-productivity linked bonus almost equivalent to a month’s salary has been moved on the lines of a similar bonus announced by the Union finance ministry for all eligible Central government employees, including paramilitary forces.

The Union finance ministry had announced that the bonuses will be credited to the employees’ accounts before Diwali.

“The proposal has routinely gone to the finance department which has to approve it before the State government gives it the final nod,” a senior bureaucrat said, adding that by the end of this week a positive decision is likely.

A day after the Centre announced the ‘Diwali’ bonus for its employees, the proposal was readied by the State government.

However, some employees who are in the B and C category will be excluded since their salary scale makes them ineligible under the Bonus Act. They similarly were denied bonus in previous years that it was paid.

The Centre’s announcement of the bonus for ‘B’ and ‘C’ category employees had come on Tuesday wherein the finance ministry spokesperson had said that the non-productivity linked bonus equivalent to a month’s salary will be paid to non-gazetted central government employees who are not covered under any Productivity Linked Bonus Scheme. Diwali this year is on November 12.

According to the proposal moved by the State government, its employees who were in service till March 31 this year and worked for at least six months during the year 2022-23 will be eligible to get this bonus.
