MARGAO

Dialysis operations at Hospicio hospital, Margao finally came to an abrupt halt on Thursday amidst high drama, when the hospital security guards stopped the operator Dr Venkatesh R at the hospital entrance and rear gates from bringing a power generator inside the hospital premises to operate the unit.

The role of the Fatorda police also came under the scanner in negating Dr Venkatesh’s attempts to bring the generator into the hospital when a police constable was accused by the dialysis attendant of driving an open rickshaw loaded with the DG set from Hospicio to the Borda road via Monte hill.

In fact, the dialysis attendant complained that he was assaulted by a person, who drove the rickshaw from Hospicio to Borda road, who later turned out to be a police constable attached to the Fatorda police station.

With the authorities sealing the electric panel attached to the dialysis centre late Wednesday evening, Dr Venkatesh was left with no option but to arrange for a generator unit owned by a philanthropist.

High drama unfolded on Thursday morning as around eight patients turned up at the centre for dialysis, only to find it without power supply.

As Dr Venkatesh finally arranged for a generator, which arrived at the rear side of the hospital, the security guards maintained that the gate was locked and that they could not find the keys. What followed thereafter raised fingers at the Fatorda police who have been camping at the hospital since the last two days under the guise of investigating the fire mishap.

After Dr Venkatesh headed to his centre, leaving the rickshaw carrying the generator at the hospital rear gate, the rickshaw suddenly headed towards Monte Hill with the generator and later came on the Borda road via Marlem.

Drama again unfolded on the Borda road along the stretch near Dr Silva’s house when the dialysis centre attendant was seen confronting a person, accusing him of taking his mobile and keys of the rickshaw, without realizing that the person is a constable attached to the Fatorda police station.

The scene again shifted to Hospicio’s main entrance gate when the rickshaw carrying the generator arrived at the spot at around 1.30 pm. Security guards, however, stopped Dr Venkatesh from entering the hospital with the generator.

While the drama between Dr Venkatesh and the security guards unfolded outside, around eight patients were seen anxiously waiting in the dialysis centre.

Congress district president Joe Dias, who visited the patients, demanded that the government should not leave the patients in the lurch due to the ongoing battle between Dr Venkatesh and the government. Aquem Baixo Sarpanch Siddesh Bhagat, who called on the patients, also echoed similar sentiments, stressing on the need to protect the interests of the patients.

What’s interesting is that Fatorda policemen in plainclothes were present around Hospicio in strength, including two PSIs and constables all under the guise of conducting a probe into last week’s fire mishap.
