DoE asks for Aadhaar kits to enroll students

PANAJI r rThe DoE had asked the headmasters and principals of all the schools upto class XII to enrol all the students under Aadhaar by July 8. Once the directives were issued, all the students who were not enrolled under Aadhaar rushed to the respective enrolment centres resulting into heavy rush. The officials even gave them appointments of July 28. rSpeaking to The Goan Everyday, an official said, “It is not right for us to stick to our deadline of July 8 as the students have even been asked to come to the centres for enrolment on July 28. We have to give them some relaxation.” rSources informed that in a recent meeting called by the Chief Secretary, the officials of DoE had assured to complete the process of enrolment of all students under rAadhaar if they were provided with at least 30-40 Aadhaar kits. r“We are still waiting for these kits. If we get it, we can complete the entire process within the next ten days,” said the official. rIt may be recalled that in April this year, the DoE had issued a circular to make Aadhaar mandatory in schools from the academic year 2017-18 mainly for availing various schemes including Mid-day meals and scholarships. rThe circular had stated: “The use of Aadhaar as an identity document for delivery of services or benefits or subsidies, simplifies the government delivery process, brings in transparency and efficiency, and enables beneficiaries to get entitlements directly to in a convenient and seamless manner.”
