Facing competition from the MGP coalition partner is bad enough, the BJP now has to contend with a rebel candidate who claims BJP supporters are with him.
In a strange twist of politics where former MLA Subhash Shirodkar switched from Congress to BJP and former MLA Mahadev Naik soon joined Congress after resigning from the BJP, the two candidates are likely to contest each other in the Shiroda by-poll.
Speaking to The Goan, Mahadev Naik said a maximum number of BJP workers are with him. "I have very good support and maximum number of BJP supporters are still with me. Let the days go and everyone will come to know about it," Naik said.
Naik said the Congress would announce the Shiroda ticket soon.
Disputing Mahadev Naik's claims, BJP Shiroda block president Suraj Naik said they have been receiving good support in Shiroda constituency and BJP workers are with them. "Our victory is sure," he said.
He stated that Subhash Shirodkar had begun to meet the voters even before the election code of conduct came into force.
Meanwhile, the BJP is also confronted with MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar, who is determined to contest the Shiroda by-poll.
“My victory is 150% sure. My campaign is in full swing and all are with me. I am definitely winning this seat," Dhavalikar said.
