Seeking to put the fiasco of backing independent candidate behind it, the AAP State leadership has announced the candidature of Dr Dattaram Desai, famous for his role in the anti-Nylon 6,6 protests in Keri Ponda.
Dr Desai had also been the party candidate for the North Goa Lok Sabha elections as well as an active member of the party consistently being involved in speaking about a range of issues on behalf of the party.
Announcing the decision, AAP’s Dr Oscar Rebello said that the party was disappointed as Govind Gaude has “virtually become a BJP candidate” leaving the party with no option but to withdraw support to him.
“The political affairs committee chaired by national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the candidature of Dr Dattaram Desai for the Priol assembly constituency,” Dr Rebello said.
Desai is a native of Savoi-Verem village in the constituency and had polled more than 15,000 votes in the Lok Sabha elections.
