St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar has highlighted the threat posed by drain openings along the highway near GMC to pedestrians, especially students heading to schools in the Cujira school complex.
Speaking to The Goan, MLA Borkar stated that he has continuously raised this issue, including in the Assembly, but the PWD has failed to repair the broken slabs.
“Pedestrians, particularly students going to schools in the Cujira complex, walk over these drains. If any untoward incident occurs, who should be held responsible?” MLA Borkar asked.
He mentioned that last year, during heavy rains, he himself fell into one of these drain openings.
“It is the duty of PWD (Highways) officials to maintain these drains, but despite my repeated highlighting of the issue, nothing has been done,” Borkar emphasised.
“I raised this issue when Nilesh Cabral was the PWD minister, and now again under the Chief Minister’s tenure, but there has been no action on the ground. Will the authorities act only after an untoward incident?” he questioned.
