A visibly unhappy Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has said the waterlogging at the Canacona Ravindra Bhavan (Lata Mangeshkar Kalangan) on Tuesday was shocking and shameful.

Tawadkar along with Canacona Dy Collector Pratap Rao Naik Gaunkar and officials of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) team led by General Manager (Civil) Dilip Joshi inspected the entire Ravindra Bhavan on Wednesday.

The Ravindra Bhavan had turned into a pool of water as pre-monsoon rains flooded the taluka library and damaged several books and furniture. Rainwater spread across the entire ground floor including the entrance section of Main Auditorium of Canacona’s prestigious art and culture centre, which was inaugurated barely nine months ago.

The entire building was inspected in the presence of the Speaker, who took stock of the situation.

GSIDC GM Joshi informed that the worst situation of water-logging inside the complex had arisen due to the accumulation of garbage/dirt inside the discharge pipes that were used to drain water from the roof of the building.

He said the pipes have been cleaned and no more leakages or waterlogging took place after clearing the discharge pipes.

Tawadkar further informed that the programmes at Ravindra Bhavan have been temporarily stopped and the Ravindra Bhavan will be reopened after the technical assessment and related works are completed and the Bhavan is declared completely safe for use.
