OLD GOA
Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao on Saturday described Venerable Agnelo D’Souza as a shining model for family life.
Delivering his homily at the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration to mark the 94th death anniversary of Venerable Agnelo D’Souza at Pilar, Archbishop Ferrao enumerated four inspiring aspects of the life of the Venerable.
“Venerable Agnelo was a man of prayer, a lover of the Word of God, a caring and compassionate person and served his flock with love,” he said.
The event was celebrated with great fervor and devotion on Saturday, especially after the Covid pandemic had restricted devotees from frequenting the hillock last year.
This year with the easing of the pandemic, thousands flocked to Pilar to seek the blessings of the Holy Son of the Soil and renew their spiritual life.
Fr Sebastiao Mascarenhas, SFX, Superior General of the Society of Pilar, thanked the archbishop for presiding over the Eucharistic celebration. He said Venerable Agnelo was a holy man of God who preached the gospel throughout his holy life.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Nazareth Fernandes, SFX, Vicar General of the Society of Pilar, thanked all devotees and collaborators, government officials, MLAs and ministers, who rendered their services and cooperation and made the celebration a meaningful one.
Fr Tony Fernandes, SFX, Vice Postulator for the Cause of Ven. Agnelo de Souza, also thanked Archbishop Ferrao. He further mentioned that the beatification process is gaining momentum and appealed to people to pray unceasingly.
