EC sends SMS to teachers to attend poll duty training

PANAJI
The Election Commission, through different district election offices, has randomly chosen teachers and officials from various government offices for election duty.
Many teachers and officers have received invitations to attend the training sessions for election duty through SMS on their cellphones.
The selection of teachers and officials is random. Although rules mandate that two members from a family cannot be assigned election duties, a couple teaching in a Bardez school have both received notices from the Election Commission to attend training.
A teacher from a school in Panjim who is pregnant and due in the election month has also received a similar message from the Election Commission. She is reportedly on maternity leave.
Meanwhile, the teacher-couple from the Bardez school has decided to take up the issue with the Election Commission and seek relaxation.
Election duty training sessions have been scheduled at the State Secretariat in Porvorim on March 13 where some government officials have been notified to attend. Some other teachers have been told to report at the Directorate of Education on March 6 for a training session.
The clash of the training session schedule with the upcoming examination season has left school headmasters in a fix as they now have to assign alternative teachers to complete the portion.
