Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Friday said the problem of power fluctuations in the coastal village would be resolved once the main underground cable from Porvorim sub-station is connected to Candolim, Nagao and the proposed sub-station in Calangute via the Saligao sub-station.
“The government has already sanctioned work of Rs 8 crore to lay the main underground cable from Porvorim sub-station to Saligao sub-station which, in turn, will be connected to Candolim, Nagao and the proposed sub-station in Calangute,” Lobo said.
The local MLA was addressing the media after inaugurating work to lay high tension power cable underground in Saipem, Candolim.
Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes and other panch members were also present on the occasion. Lobo said upgradation of power infra in the coastal belt of Calangute and Candolim was the need of the hour. We have upgraded the Candolim sub-station just two days ago,” he said.
The high tension power line will be put underground at a cost of Rs 1.67 crore and will cover around 3.5 kms. The work is expected to be completed in one month’s time.
Lobo also said once the work to lay the underground cable was completed, the broken road from Candolim to Saipem would be repaired and hot-mixed. “We have got a sanction of Rs 1.10 crore to repair and hotmix the road after the work of underground cabling is complete,” he said.
Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes said underground cabling work from Saipem to Candolim church was pending for very long time. “We face a lot of problem during monsoons as trees fall on overhead wires leading to power cuts for long durations,” Fernandes said.
He said with the completion of the underground power cabling the problem of power cuts will be resolved and locals will also get better voltage.
