Elderly pigmy collector robbed in Bicholim, one accused held

A snatching incident was reported at Bicholim Police Station based on a complaint filed by Ranjit Sakhalkar 74, a resident of Vishwas Nagar, Lamgao, Bicholim. The complainant, who has been working as a pigmy collector appointed by Canara Bank since 1973, stated that the incident occurred on December 23, 2025, at around 2.30 pm near the Kareshwar temple, Bicholim.

According to the complaint, while Sakhalkar was walking towards his residence, two accused persons, identified as Amit Gujjar 20, resident of Mapusa and native of Khandwa, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and Anuraj, also from Madhya Pradesh, allegedly acted with common intention and snatched his bag containing cash amounting to Rs 43,090 before fleeing from the spot.

However, with the assistance of the public and police personnel, accused Amit Gujjar was chased and apprehended in a field while attempting to escape. He was taken into custody and the stolen cash was recovered from his possession.

An offence has been registered at Bicholim Police Station under Section 304(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the JMFC, Bicholim, today.
