Former Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho has said Tuesday’s fire incident will once again refresh the memory of the elected representatives from Margao, about the need of functional fire hydrants and clear roads for the smooth movement of traffic.
On a sarcastic note, he said the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat will now waste no time and immediately call for a meeting of all the heads of the Collectorate office, MMC, PWD, Fire Services, Police, Water Supply, Market Associations, etc and discuss the setting up of the much talked about overhead water tank, to supply pressured water to the fire hydrants.
“This is exactly what happens after every fire incident in the market area, and all the proposals are soon forgotten till the next fire incident doesn’t come as yet another reminder,” Coutinho said.
“The narrow roads full of encroachments that create hurdles for the fire-fighting vehicles to reach on time can well be attributed to our Margao MLA who has openly claimed that he survives on the encroachers. Margao is fairly safe till today is only on account of the Gods. However the neglect and failure on the part of the authorities may one day spell doom for the commercial town,” he concluded.
