Elvita Costa is the new Sarpanch of the village panchayat of Nuvem. In the election held on Tuesday, Elvita was declared elected unopposed as the presiding officer received her lone nomination paper for the vacant post.
Elvita succeeds Dr Breezy Barretto who had quit office after presiding the reigns of office for 19 months as per an understanding amongst the panchayat members.
Soon after her election, the new sarpanch promised to bring about awareness amongst the villagers on the garbage management front. She pointed out that awareness will help stop waste finding its way on the roadside and water bodies.
The new sarpanch has also drawn up plans to take up a library project in the panchayat ghar for the benefit of the village students and youth.
Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa said that Elvita will preside over the office for the next 19 months as per an understanding amongst the panch members. He said the members of the Nuvem panchayat are all united and would unitedly work for the progress and development of the village.
He said a number of proposals which were initiated during the tenure of outgoing Sarpanch Breezy Barretto are either completed or are underway, adding that road works in Nuvem village are
also complete.
