Emotions and anger run high in Margao as Crime Branch takes over Walke murder probe

The Margao police on Saturday officially handed over the Swapnil Walke coldblooded murder case to the Crime Branch, three days after the gruesome murder sent shockwaves across the state.

A Margao police team headed to Panaji in jeeps, carrying the two arrested accused, Mustafa Sheikh and Omkar Patil, to officially hand them over to the Crime Branch.

A file containing documents, including the FIR, the post-mortem examination report, and the statements recorded so far were also being carried by an official in the police jeep to Panaji.

Margao police pointed out that the panchanama and the attachment reports taken by the police during the three days of investigations have been forwarded to the CB.

“Whatever things and documents, which had come into possession during the three days of investigations have all been handed over to the CB,” a police officer said, adding that the custody of the two accused Mustafa Sheikh and Omkar Patil has since been handed over to the investigating agency.

Margao police had set in motion the investigations into the sensational case on Wednesday soon after Swapnil was found murdered in cold blood on Wednesday. The police had registered a case of murder under section 302 of the IPC and offences under the Arms Act after a country-made pistol and live and empty cartridges were found inside the jewellery shop.
