The Episcopal Ordination of Auxiliary Bishop Simião Purificação Fernandes will take place at the Se Cathedral in Old Goa on June 17 at 4 pm.
A committee headed by Episcopal Vicar (South) Fr Lucio Dias has been appointed to be in charge of the preparation and organisation of this ceremony.
In an official statement, Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão stated that Episcopal Ordination of the Bishop-Elect Simião Fernandes, due to take place on June 17, will be celebrated as an “ecclesial event” of special significance to the Church in the Archdiocese.
Cardinal Ferrão said a committee has been constituted to be in charge of the preparation and organisation of the Episcopal Ordination of the new Bishop Simião Fernandes with participation of the Faithful (Laity, Religious and Priests) of the Archdiocese.
The committee headed by Fr Lucio Dias as its convenor, consists of Fr Tony D’Souza, ofm, Fr Rosario Oliveira, Fr Alfredo Vaz, Fr Afonso Mendonca, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, svd, Sr Flory Rodrigues, fmck, Deron Rodrigues, Gail Mesquita, Ninfa D’Silva, Jamice Cardozo and Russel da Cruz
The Committee may co-opt other members it may feel necessary or advisable for the purpose.
“We earnestly request all concerned – especially our Pastoral Clergy, Rectors and Superiors of our Diocesan/Religious Institutions, our Associations/Organisations, etc – to cooperate wholeheartedly with this committee to make this Episcopal Ordination a truly “ecclesial event” of the Church in this Archdiocese,” Cardinal Ferrão added.
