Para-military personnel stood guard outside the government multipurpose college building, Borda as Electronic Voting machines from South Goa were all inside sealed with a kiss on Sunday.
Election officials informed that the entire grueling process of sealing the EVMs from all the 21 constituencies of South Goa was completed around Sunday noon.
Sources informed that election officials and the Returning Officers were all holed up throughout the night at the receiving centre at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda before the EVMs were transported to the multipurpose building at dawn.
The process of sealing the EVMs consumed time since most of the sealed items from the taluka level from across South Goa landed at the multipurpose building around the same time.
A number of candidates and their election agents made their presence felt at the multipurpose building for scrutiny scheduled at around 11 am. A Returning officer told The Goan that many candidates had turned up for scrutiny before the machines were all sealed in the strong room.
The district election officials had proposed to the Election Commission of India for vote counting at the taluka centres in South Goa. The proposal, however, was turned down from the security point of view and the Commission had ordered vote counting at centralized centre in Margao.
