Sleuths of the Excise department went on a drive around Salcete countryside to seal wholesale liquor outlets in the wake of a circular issued by the Excise Commissioner Amit S, IAS on Sunday.
Salcete taluka plays host to around 67 wholesale liquor outlets and if sources in the Excise department is to be believed, it may take another two days for the officials to seal all these outlets.
Two teams of excise officials led by Excise Inspectors, Nilesh Naik and Shamba Naik went about sealing the wholesale liquor outlets in Margao and the city outskirts on Sunday.
Around 23 wholesale liquor outlets have been sealed on Sunday after the teams started the exercise on Sunday morning. “Given there are about 67 wholesale liquor outlets in Salcete, it will take two more days to complete the sealing exercise,” sources said.
The Excise Commissioner had directed the Superintendent of Excise and Excise Inspectors to seal the premises/godowns/bonds of all units, wholesalers till the lockdown period.
Similar action is to be taken against the retailers if any complaint is received against the retail business if they are found selling liquor clandestinely.
