The move is also seen in political circles as a clear signal to the State Congress leaders that Rahul Gandhi has reposed their faith in state Congress President Luizinho Faleiro despite the Congress party failing to cobble up the required numbers to form the government after March 11.
Sources said that the removal of Digvijaya by the Sonia-Rahul duo is one thing, but the fact that they have settled for Dr Chella Kumar as the new AICC general secretary in-charge of Goa is seen as an attempt by the high command to strengthen the party under the leadership of Luizinho Faleiro. Many in the Luizinho camp say that though the State Congress president and Digvijaya had differences over issues such as Mahagattabandhan in the run up to the Assembly election, there was perfect bonding between Luizinho and Dr Chella Kumar. In fact, the replacement of the general secretary is viewed as an attempt by the Congress high command not to disturb the bonhomie between the Luizinho camp and Dr Chella Kumar.
