Exit of veterans from party has given way for young blood: Cong

MARGAO
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar on Wednesday said the exit of veterans from the party has given an opportunity for the young blood to take over the reigns of the party.

He further said the party had publicly disowned former Ponda MLA Ravi Naik after his sons had joined the BJP.

Addressing the media at the South Goa district office after welcoming youth leader from Shiroda, Snehalo Gracias and his supporters in the party, Girish further said the BJP has done a great favour on the Congress by taking away the senior leaders, which has given an opportunity for the young blood to take over the reigns.

“We had publicly disowned Ravi Naik after his two sons had joined the BJP last year. Since then, the party was not inviting him for the party programmes and functions. In fact, the Ponda block committee did not even propose the name of Ravi for the party ticket and has instead suggested a young face for the ticket,” he said.

The GPCC president charged the BJP for only using the Bhandari Samaj community during the elections, reminding that only the Congress has promoted the interests of the Bhandari Samaj and the Bahujan Samaj during its rule.

On whether the Congress will nominate Snehalo for the party ticket for the Shiroda seat, Girish said the party has a mechanism in choosing the candidates for the constituencies.

He said the party will carry out social engineering to give representation to all sections of society and ensure the party wins around 24-26 seats in the coming polls.

Welcoming Snehalo in the party, Opposition leader Digambar Kamat said the public sentiment amongst the people is loud and clear the people do not want the return of the BJP to power in 2022.

Snehalo told the media that he has joined the Congress party since Shiroda has suffered on the development front in recent years. Party leader MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, district president Joe Dias were present to welcome the new members into the party.
